Shah Zaman

Shah Zaman is the founding Chairman of the Milky Way Foundation and a rights activist from Pakistan. Since 2010, Shah has promoted education, health, peace, social activism, and human rights both in Pakistan and globally.

The Milky Way Foundation is a youth-led organisation that supports over 130 students with free education in the northern regions of Pakistan, Gilgit Baltistan, and Chitral. Through the Foundation, children are able to attend a Montessori school in his house, community libraries, and get involved in advocacy campaigns as well as projects and assignments.

Shah’s aim for the organisation has been to appoint university ambassadors to help aspiring students from disadvantaged provinces with study and career counseling. When the ambassadors return to Pakistan during their university breaks, they are able to involve themselves in social activism and contribute to spreading awareness of key issues of the region, guiding those in need towards a brighter future. Additionally, there are projects and classes specifically for women in the provinces, designed to empower and support them with educational facilities.

Zaman has conducted numerous skill development workshops across Pakistan and especially in his home province of Gilgit-Baltistan to develop leadership skills among youth.

As well as this, Shah is a lecturer at Karakoram International University in Gilgit, where he has taught for over two years. He is a fellow of the “Young Connectors of Future Program 2015” by the Swedish Institute and of the “Princes Trust International”, United Kingdom and “Turkish Higher Education Council”, Turkey.
