Ahmad Farhad Shaheer

Ahmad Farhad Shaheer is a writer, poet, journalist and social activist born in Kabul, Afghanistan 1976. After graduating from high school, he immigrated along with his family to Karachi, Pakistan. Mr. Shaheer opened an educational center for Afghan immigrants in Karachi wherein Afghan youth were able learn the basic education needs in Dari, Pashto Urdu and English. After the fall of Taliban, Mr. Shaheer returned to Kabul in 2006. Mr. Shaheer came up with a concept of "Pen Day" (also known as "Roz-e-Kalam"), and for the last several years he has been promoting this concept. Various political organizations, such as Afghanistan Civil Society Forum Organization (ACSFo), Afghanistan Human Rights Organization, as well as many s Mr. Shaheer established the Pen Foundation for Change in 2016 in order to improve the level of general knowledge, relieve illiteracy, and help create mental and intellectual growth and development of young people in society. He believes the main reason for Afghanistan’s miseries and problems is illiteracy and Afghans inability to use the pen. Recently, National Pen Day founder Ahmad Farhad Shaheer wrote a letter of request to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to mark Pen Day in the UNESCO Cultural Calendar. Mr. Shaheer believes that if UNESCO marks Pen Day in their cultural calendar, then surely it will get publicized and promoted by the international and Afghan communities. 

Mr. Shaheer has been voluntarily teaching and motivating students at Imam Mohammad Ghazali High School since 2011.
