Hanan Abbasi

Pakistan
The life story of Hanan Ali Abbasi – from an ordinary villager to founder of Pakistan’s leading recognized National level Youth Platform the National Youth Assembly -- is a unique one. He has rendered outstanding service to promote youth empowerment, peace building, social service, and literature among youth at an early age of his life. Mr. Abbasi has been recognized for his essential and innovative work both nationally and internationally, most notably by the Commonwealth International Secretariat London, from which he received the credible youth award for allmost 54 Commonwealth countries in the field of Democracy and Human Rights. He was selected from a long list of applicants out of 36 Commonwealth countries who submitted their profiles for this prestigious award. This achievement was also highlighted by the international media.

Despite coming from a "backward" environment, he was determined in his efforts and ultimately, in order to fill this vacuum of youth representation and leadership training, he came up with the idea to gather the youth around a common platform and to give them the learning environment to speak. This idea was named the “National Youth Assembly", or NYA, which has now successfully established a wide network in more than 100 Districts and 25 Universities of Pakistan with over 50,000 young peacebuilders.

The National Youth Assembly (NYA) has become first youth institution of the country which has obtained a proper license from related commission of the Government of Pakistan. Thirty leading universities and 59 governmental district administrations have formally recognized the NYA, and have provided government halls and security for its sessions. The NYA is the largest youth forum to hold youth parliamentary sessions where thousands of young Pakistanis are taking part in different youth parliamentary sessions of the NYA to become future leaders, peace builders, bureaucrats, social workers, philosophers and responsible citizens. The NYA has been working for the last last 5 years with formal organizational structure through an engineered mechanism of hierarchy, devised from the top to the grassroot level. Young personalities of international fame such as, Malala Yousafzai, international squash player Amir Atlas Khan, world record holders in academia, Haroon Tariq, Ibrahim Shahid Rooma Syadain, and many other national/international achievers, are part of the NYA. With the presence of a strong youth network at federal, provincial, divisional, district, university and tehsil level, more than forty thousand youth have become part of NYA as members, peace builders, youth councilors and volunteers.

Mr. Hanan authored three books and has also achieved fame as a broadcaster. The National Book Foundation by the Government of Pakistan titled Mr. Hanan Ali Abbasi a “National Young Book Ambassador”. He also received the highest official youth award of Pakistan, the “National Youth Award" 2010. His real-life journey came to glory when he was given the opportunity to pay a visit to the United Kingdom, China, Hong Kong, Sudan, Sri Lanka and Iran as a state guest. Numerous top-notch universities and organizations have invited Hanan Abbasi to share his longstanding experiences of peacebuilding as a role model for youth. His unique travel log Chen say Bartania Ta was officially published by renowned publishing house Institute of Policy Study. Similarly, his first book Zameeni Sitray was declared “Best Book” for career guidance and motivation. Distinctively, he introduced a unique approach for promotion of his books in youth who are away from books through video documentaries to influence his own widespread social media following. Hanan Abbasi also consistently invests his energies into motivating, resourcing, and equipping young leaders for the bright future of the country. Hanan enjoys great influence in social media across the word and has successfully established one of the pioneer institute of youth empowerment in Pakistan at the grassroots level.
