FMDC, Media for Development and Social Change

While concerted actions have been made at the policy level to address challenges around women, peace and security in Nepal, there are concerns about their implementation. There is limited awareness of the National Action Plan on women, peace and security as well as other relevant laws and policies at the local level. Policies often fail to reflect the importance of women’s inclusion in peace and security, and there exists no monitoring mechanism to oversee progress.

FMDC, Media for Development and Social Change works towards the attainment of democratic governance, the promotion and protection of human rights, biodiversity conservation, and public rights to freedom of information in Nepal. It was registered in Dhangadi, Kailali Nepal in 2001 to address social and security issues arising from armed conflict. The organization is also involved in monitoring the state of press freedom and human rights violations, and members often include journalists, media representatives, and human rights professionals. FMDC seeks N-Peace’s support to establish an institutional mechanism for women, peace and security; working to advance local policies and programmes on gender issues and host dialogues to enhance understanding between women’s groups and local leaders.
