Management and Development Foundation (MDF)
Women were encouraged to play a greater role in the electoral process during the last local elections in Pakistan in 2015. As a result, more women from the Jacobab province were elected to positions within the district and, municipal levels, as well as achieving greater representation in town committees and union councils of the province. However, social and cultural norms still prevent elected women from playing an equal role.
The Management and Development Foundation is registered in Hyderabad, Pakistan and works on human rights and ensuring good governance. It seeks N-Peace’s support to empower 120 elected women members and key stakeholders in the District Council, Municipal Committees and Town Committees, and Union Council of Jacobabad district through a 5-day training. The training program includes educational material on active citizenship, community participation, women’s rights & human rights, conflict management and peace building. It hopes to augment the coordination between the trained cadre of women members and stakeholders through 4 coordination meetings at the district level, involving all public departments, NGOs, CSOs and media representatives. The project will be implemented in district Jacobabad of Sindh province under the theme of “Cooperation through Coordination”. The results of the intervention will be submitted to the Planning & Development Board (P&DB) and the Government of Sindh for replication in other district councils and committees of districts within the Sindh province.
