Rural Community Development Services Council (RCDSC)

The Dalits and Muslim communities in Nepal are among the most marginalized and economically vulnerable populations of the country. 97% of the Muslim communities in Nepal are in the Terai district bordering India and have lived there for centuries alongside Hindu populations. They often come into conflict with the Hindu communities; violence recently reemerged in the region as a result of the poor implementation of peace agreements and exclusion of marginalized groups in the process. The conflict coupled with patriarchal norms and practices has had a heavy toll on Madhesi women in Nepal. These women report among the highest levels of psychological, emotional, and sexual violence.

Rural Community Development Services Council works towards improving the quality and standard of life for women, disadvantaged communities, and ethnic minorities. This organization seeks the support of N-Peace to implement the National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security focusing on the marginalized Muslim and Madheshi communities of Nepal. Rural Community Development Services Council will run a campaign to build knowledge of affected women on their rights and responsibilities, engage men and religious leaders in dialogue on the topic and provide training on gender equality for the judiciary. The initiative hopes to reach 1,700 people in the community.
