Human Rights Consciousness and Development Centre (HUCODEC)

Sexual violence, as a weapon of war and exacerbated by tensions in the aftermath of emergencies, is common in post-conflict Nepal. Violence against women is particularly pervasive in the Pachthar district of Nepal, and poses a serious threat to women who are often reluctant to report incidents. When women do report abuse, their cases are often settled out of court by powerful men in the community, and do not receive the justice they deserve.

The Human Rights Consciousness and Development Centre (HUCODEC) Nepal was first established to protect the human rights of the people, and to prevent conflict and violence against women. The organization has played a key role in documenting and monitoring human rights violations in the district and providing access to justice to those who have faced abuse.

HUCODEC seeks N-Peace’s support for an initiative to address violence against women in the municipalities of Phidim and Miklajung. HUCODEC will implement an initiative that includes public hearings on gender-based violence, legal awareness raising training sessions, lobbying with justice committees and district courts, and providing education on the rights of marginalized women.
