Sabitra Ghimire

Sabitra Ghimire is a civil society leader responding to the unequal treatment of women from different marginalized backgrounds. She currently serves as the Chairperson of the Dalit Women Rights Forum (DWRF), and is the Executive Committee Member for NGO Federation Nepal and Dalit NGO Federation Nepal. Her work with DWRF addresses the intersections of discrimination based on caste, gender, and the impact of kuriti (harmful traditional practices) on women.

As a civil society activist, she has used her network to respond to violence against women in marginalized communities. Sabitra’s work implores the use of local governance structures to shift conversations on women’s empowerment, as well as, women’s access to justice and economic institutions. She is the recipient of the Mahila Shakti Shiromani Award, the Gold Award presented by International Samrasta Forum and the Women Human Rights Defender Award.
