Wazhma Tokhi

Wazhma Tokhi currently serves as an Advocacy Specialist for Promote Mushkarikat, where she works to promote gender equality and women’s voices in Zabul Province, Afghanistan. She has worked in similar roles for the Afghan Education and Training Organization (AETO).

Her methodology interconnects grassroots awareness capacity building and high level advocacy. In 2018, Wazhma ran for the Afghanistan General Elections, and earlier this year formed part of a youth delegation which articulated youth’s role in democracy building to President Ghani. In 2017, she served as part of the Youth Parliament, and used this platform to bring to light gender inequality concerns. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected with the rise of social media, Wazhma has remained vocal about the need to ensure that emerging technologies are mobilized as tools to ensure equal participation of women.

Wazhma continues to provide training to girl high school students in Zabul Province on the importance of women’s leadership and inclusion of young women in the peace process.
