Zakia Samimi (Afghanistan)

Zakia Samimi (21 years) is the co-Founder of the Young Women Leaders Conference and the Deputy Regional Coordinator Afghans for Progressive Thinking. Both these organisations aim at empowering women and girls, and advocate for women to be included in peacebuilding.

Zakia has worked extensively with civil society capacity building projects for women. She has worked with the Seraar International Language and Computer Academy as an Instructor and as a Senior Lecturer for the Afghanistan Association for Adult Learning. Additionally, she has been a Lecturer for the Kabul Advising Center since 2016 – a further testament to her dedication to increasing the capacity for women and girls through education. 

In 2018, Zakia hosted the Young Women Leaders Conference which brought together 50 girls from three Northern provinces of Afghanistan for workshops on knowledge sharing, capacity building and empowerment. In 2017, she was the recipient of the Peace Ambassador for Generation Positive Award.
