Dalit Ethnic Upliftment Center (DEUC)

Unequal access to resources and the marginalization and discrimination of minorities are often root causes of conflict. Dalits are among the most marginalized and poorest communities in South Asia. Despite laws designed to protect them, Dalit women are especially vulnerable to gender-based violence and human trafficking.

The Dalit Ethnic Upliftment Center (DEUC) was established to advance the lives of Dalits and ethnic minorities, especially women and children, across the Bara district of Nepal. DEUC seeks our support to establish nine youth information centers across the Bara district. The centers will collect information for improved research on gender-based violence and create awareness of human rights and gender equality in the community. Funding will also support the establishment of partnerships between the centers, the local media and the government to address specific challenges faced by young female Dalits.
