Peace and Justice Network (PJN)

Haripur District is in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Like other districts in the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas, Haripur has experience decades of conflict. It is also the area in Pakistan most impacted by the war in Afghanistan. Women in this district have faced significant challenges, including heavy restrictions on their roles especially in the political sphere. Despite this, a small proportion of women were elected during a local government election in 2015. These women face significant challenges in fulfilling their roles in a male-dominated political system.

Peace and Justice Network (PJN) is a national civil society organization with a network of 45 organizations from across the country that promote rule of law, human rights, social justice, and governance. They seek to strengthen democracy, enhance access to justice, and resolve conflict. PJN is seeking support to implement a project in the Haripur District that would support and enhance the skills of female local representatives (at least 200) so that they can play a greater role in fulfilling the Women, Peace and Security agenda. They will begin by mapping the skills of women elected for office in the region and, based on the findings, they will develop training manuals and conduct targeted skills training for women elected leaders.
