Information and Human Right Research Center (IHRC)

Nepalgunj is a diverse, multi-cultural and multi religious sub-district in Nepal with the two main religious groups, Hindus and Muslims, co-existing for centuries. The area was heavily impacted by the Nepali civil war. Women experienced severe suffering and oppression, subjected to some of the highest levels of violence against women recorded in the country. The conservative, patriarchal system has meant that women have little power and autonomy over land and limited access to income-earning opportunities.

The Information and Human Right Research Center is working towards good governance, human rights and peace, and seeks our support to provide legal assistance, eliminate impunity, and ensure justice for women who experienced violence. The project includes a mapping of communities that are most vulnerable to violence, providing support through public interest litigation, conducting dialogues between communities and key stakeholders, as well as educating communities on their inherent rights and responsibilities.
