Protection Nepal – Kalaiya

The Bara district of Nepal has remained a hotspot for ethnic and religious conflict, and new concerns relating to Islamic extremism are on the rise. Women in areas affected by prolonged conflict are especially vulnerable to violence and the Bara district is no exception, with one of the highest rates of violence against women in Nepal.

Protection Nepal is registered in Kalayia, Bara Nepal. It works toward social and economic justice for poor and marginalized communities of the district with a focus on children, women and youth. The organization proposes to implement an initiative to understand the impact of armed conflict on women in the region and, based on their findings, will identify protection mechanisms for women from gender-based violence. These may include access to justice, working collaboratively with men, raising awareness in political systems, success story telling, or supporting economic growth through entrepreneurship. The initiative will also make recommendations for the full protection, promotion and fulfilment of women’s human rights at the local level, impacting 1000 women in the Karayaimai and the Mahagadhimai municipalities.
