Sankalpa Community Based Rehabilitation

Sankalpa Community Based Rehabilitation

Gadi municipality, located in the Sunsari district, was heavily impacted by the decade-long conflict in Nepal that ended in 2006. While much of Nepal is on the path to rehabilitation and reconciliation, the situation within the Gadi municipality has remained volatile, with communal conflict flaring up again between 2011-2015. The conflict has damaged much of the physical infrastructure of the region, and efforts need to be made to bring about development gains. The conflict has taken a particularly large toll on women from the region. Literacy rates among women remain low, maternal mortality and morbidity are high, and women and girls continue to face gender-based violence.

Sankalpa Community Based Rehabilitation seeks to work with people living in poor, marginalized communities to eradicate poverty, fulfil their basic needs, and achieve social justice through advocating for democratic, inclusive governance.

The CSO seeks N-Peace’s support to conduct research in the Gadi municipality to increase knowledge of communities affected by conflict – and to specifically understand the impact of conflict on women. Based on their data findings, it will conduct dialogues between key stakeholders and women from the community on the topic of women peace and security. The initiative also seeks to fund legal services for conflict-affected women, and organize capacity-building training to educate women about their rights and leadership skills.
