Sita Ram Chaudhary

Sita Ram Chaudhary is the Vice President of Kamaiya Pratha Unmulan Samaj (KPUS), and has served as Chairperson of the Kamaiya Freedom Movement Committee. His work has been centred on advocacy for equal rights and access to livelihoods for former bonded labourers (also known as the Kamaiya). Awarded the Kamaiya Freedom Leader Award in 2008 and the Peace Award in 2002 by the Universal Peace Federation, Sita has been recognized for his work in creating gender-responsive livelihood options for former Kamaiya and Kamlari. Identifying the gendered impacts of re-integration of former bonded labourers, of social cohesion and creation of employment options, as well as the impact of climate change, Sita has engaged multiple stakeholders and networks to call for former Kamaiya women’s access to equal rights and entitlements.
