Zahra Mohammadi

Zahra Mohammadi uses sports education as an entry point to broaden discussions of the imperative of girls’ education. Her community engagement has contributed to girls making up nearly 45% of the Mazar-e-Sharif after-school programme ‘Skateistan’ which provides skate boarding training as well as extra lessons in core academic subjects – affording girls a window of opportunity to attend school in a unique environment.

Between 2010 and 2014, Zahra volunteered and subsequently worked for Afghan Support Education and Training (ASET), providing teaching services for children and young women. She expanded on this role as an educator, working in the Afghan Turk School (2016-2017) where she taught girl high school students, and further provided career advice support.

In addition to her current role, Zahra continues to organize and participate in marathons and ladies basketball tournaments to bring attention to women’s participation in public life.
